This study aims to look at the potential and competitiveness of the economic sector in Kutai Kartanegara Regency and Penajam Paser Utara Regency which is expected to be a reference and direction for the regions to plan the development of sustainable sector potential, maximize the potential and existing resources in order to increase income, equitable development and improve community welfare. The method used is quantitative with secondary data in the form of time series obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics in 2013 - 2022. The analysis techniques used are Location Quotient, Shift Share, Klassen Typology, and Multiplier Effect. The research results obtained are Kutai Kartanegara Regency has 3 basic sectors and Penajam Paser Utara Regency has 9 basic sectors. There are 15 sectors in Kutai Kartanegara Regency and all sectors in Penajam Paser Utara Regency that encourage economic growth in East Kalimantan Province. There are 15 sectors classified as relatively fast growing in Kutai Kartanegara Regency and 16 sectors classified as relatively fast growing in Penajam Paser Utara Regency. There are 11 sectors in Kutai Kartanegara Regency and 13 sectors in Penajam Paser Utara Regency are highly competitive sectors. Sectors that fall into category I of Klassen Typology are 1 sector in Kutai Kartanegara Regency and 8 sectors in Penajam Paser Utara Regency. The base multiplier value in Kutai Kartanegara Regency is 1.24 and the base multiplier value in Penajam Paser Utara Regency is 1.81.
